Son of legendary ‘Gers player and current Director of Football Development Kel McDermott, Ashton rose through the youth ranks at the club and progressed to the first team in the 2011/12 season and made 15 appearances in his first spell before linking up with PSNI in January 2013.
The 27-year-old spent five seasons at the Newforge Lane outfit before returning to his hometown club a year ago, helping Niall Currie’s side to a second placed finish in the Bluefin Sport Championship and secure play-off promotion as he amassed a further 27 appearances, taking his club total to 42.
Delighted to have re-acquired the services of the homegrown talent, Niall Currie said,
“We are delighted to have Ashton on board again as he is a total clubman and loves being at this club which to me, is massive. He played an integral part in our promotion and deserves the chance to play at the highest level now which is what he is going to do. He knows what is needed now and I have no doubt he will give his all for this club like always.”
Equally happy to be remaining a ‘Gers player, Ashton McDermott commented,
“I am delighted to have re-signed for Carrick Rangers. Last season was a great one for the club, players, staff and fans alike and I was happy that I could play my part in that. We are now looking to try and establish ourselves in the Premiership and again I can’t wait to play my part in helping the club achieve our goals this season. I am very much looking forward to the season ahead with this fantastic club. Amber Army!”
Great to have you on board, Ashton! #AmberArmy
