Currie was appointed as Rangers supremo twelve months ago following the club’s relegation from the Danske Bank Premiership and immediately began a re-building process of the squad, retaining only a few players from the previous season.
A 3-1 Boxing Day win over Limavady United confirmed a targeted top six place, and Currie was rewarded days later with an extension until the end of the 2019/20 campaign.
Indeed Currie led his side on an extraordinary run in the second half of the season as they lost just two games in all competitions from 15th December onwards, ultimately finishing second in the Bluefin Sport Championship and gaining promotion by initially beating third placed Portadown in a pre-play off before winning both legs of the play-off against Ards.
As preparations continue ahead of the upcoming season in the Danske Bank Premiership, the first deal of the summer sees the 46-year-old commit his future to the club.
Having agreed the contract extension, Niall Currie said,
“I’m absolutely delighted to commit myself to this great club for another two years. For me, the offer has come completely out of the blue to be honest, so I cannot thank the Chairman and Board enough for the faith they are showing in me. It is great to feel wanted and appreciated. For me, that is the most important thing in football and I have that at this club; that appreciation is very much mutual. We know that we have a massive task ahead, but together; nothing is impossible.”
Chairman Peter Clarke also commented,
“The Board and I are delighted that Niall has agreed to further extend his contract with the club. The success that he and his management team delivered this season fully warrants this extension and demonstrates the vision of the club. I have a very close relationship with Niall, speaking with him on a daily basis and it must be said that the work that he puts in behind the scenes is phenomenal. His passion, drive and enthusiasm is infectious and the players have bought into his vision. We are all looking forward to the huge challenge ahead of us in the upcoming campaign and we will work tirelessly to support Niall as he continues the fantastic job he is doing as manager of Carrick Rangers.”
Congrats, gaffer! #AmberArmy
