The 29-year-old has had spells at both Ballymena United and Ballyclare Comrades where he worked under Clifford Adams and played alongside Stewart Nixon, Chris Rodgers and Adam Gray.
The forward spent last season at Ards where he scored eight goals in 22 league appearances and picked up the North Down side’s Player of the Month award for both October and February.
Pleased to have bolstered his attack, Niall Currie said,
“I am delighted to get Mark on board. I have been an admirer of his for a few years now and I was glad to see him get his Premiership move with Ards last season. He deserved that and by all accounts had a very good first season. People talk about his goal return and scoring eight Premiership goals last year is a good first season at this level. My attraction to Mark has always been the constant improvement he has made in the last few years, as well as what he brings to the team as that is what we are about. He can do the lot: he is strong in the air, holds the ball up well and can create for others. Again, we have a player with his best years ahead of him and we think we can improve him to be that 12-15 goals-per-season striker that is so hard to find. The fact that he has chosen us over three other clubs tells me that he is here for all the right reasons.”
Also happy to be on board for the new season, Mark Kelly commented,
“I am very happy to sign for the club and I am looking forward to another year in the Premiership. I am excited to have the opportunity to work under Niall Currie as well as alongside some of the players that are there already. I have kept contact with Clifford Adams since my time at Ballyclare and then when Niall contacted me he told me his plans for the new season and I am now looking forward to playing a part in this ambitious team in the campaign ahead.”
Welcome to Carrick Rangers, Mark!
